Geisel Welcomes Class of 2020
In August, Geisel welcomed its 220th class to Hanover. On October 1st, those same students donned the first white coat of their medical career and received sage advice from alumni speaker Bonnie Henderson, MD, D’89, M’93: "This white coat doesn’t know any religious, ethnic, or cultural boundaries. Geisel and Dartmouth-Hitchcock receive $42M for Pediatric Research
Geisel and Dartmouth-Hitchcock researchers will receive up to $42 million to study how exposure to a range of environmental factors in early developmentinfluences child and adolescent health. “Critical gaps remain in our understanding of the early drivers of child health and development that have lifelong consequences,” explains Margaret Karagas, PhD, chair and professor of epidemiology at Geisel, who will collaborate closely with colleagues at Dartmouth College, Geisel, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock in the effort.
Geisel Professor Receives Award for Distinguished Service
James Geiling, MD, MPH’14, has received the 2016 James Wright Award for Distinguished Service. Given each year by the Dartmouth Uniformed Service Alumni, the award honors an individual in the Dartmouth community who has exemplified the ideals of service, college, and country.
Immunologist Randolph Noelle Is Inaugural Recipient of Kosasa Professorship
A cellular and molecular immunologist, Randolph Noelle, PhD, and his lab have made numerous discoveries that have implications for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases. The professorship was established through the generosity of alumnus Thomas Kosasa, MD, D’67, M’69.
Student Spotlight: Brent Bates is on the Right Track
Brent Bates was born with an abundance of natural athletic ability and an affinity for the outdoors. But a knee injury during his junior year at Western University in London, Canada, forced him to take time off from training and competing. “It gave me the opportunity to take a step back and reflect on what I wanted to do after college,” he says. “That’s when I decided that I wanted to pursue medicine.”
