NEWS FROM THE GEISEL SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AT DARTMOUTH | February 2021

Greetings, Alumni and Friends,

SNMA White Coats

February, Black History Month, is a time to reflect and a time to look forward. Did you know that in 1839 Samuel Ford McGill graduated with his medical degree from Dartmouth, making him the first Black graduate of a U.S. medical school? Now, almost two centuries later, the Geisel chapter of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is hosting an inaugural Black History Month Celebration. With events that include participation from three of our alumni—Irene Dankwa-Mullan MED’97, Rondall Lane MED’98, and Joyce Sackey D’85, MED’89—the program celebrates Black excellence and perseverance.

I do hope you will be able to tune in to some of the Black History Month programming, along with our Vaccines in 2021 series this month.

Be well,

Amanda Bassett
