Geisel Students Find Their “Match”
“Match Day was an incredible confluence of jubilation and nerves,” says Shreya Shrestha, who matched in primary care with 40 of her fellow classmates. Primary care being the most popular specialty choice among the 81 Geisel fourth-year students who matched.
Geisel Introduces New Medical Education Department
The Geisel School of Medicine has announced the formation of a new Department of Medical Education. The new structure will enhance Geisel’s ability to offer a four-year medical education curriculum that graduates “the complete physician,” said Greg Ogrinc, MD, MS, senior associate dean of Medical Education at Geisel.
Geisel, D-H Reorganization
Geisel School of Medicine and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock health system are working to reorganize the school and provide clarity on the relationship between the two organizations. The goal of the reorganization is to strengthen medical education and increase the impact of the research enterprise while developing a financially sustainable model for the combined academic medical center.
Student Profile: Olivia Sacks – Changing the Narrative
Olivia Sacks learned something important about herself while teaching yoga: helping people feel good in their bodies made her happy. “That was my moment, during yoga training, and it was a scary moment,” she says. “Because I identified myself as someone who was humanities-oriented, I wasn’t confident I could learn biology and memorize facts. But I was inspired to learn about the body.”
Low-level Arsenic May Impact Fetal Growth
A recent study by researchers at Geisel found that higher levels of mother’s arsenic in their urine during the second trimester was related to decreased head circumference at birth.
Geisel Loses Two Members of its Medical Community
Ronald K. Taylor, PhD, professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Geisel School of Medicine, died Saturday, March 26. You may read more here. His full obituary is not yet available.
John C. Baldwin, MD, the 11th dean of Dartmouth Medical School, now the Geisel School of Medicine, died at the age of 67 on April 3, 2016. You may read his full obituary here.

In an opinion piece in The Washington Post, Lisa Adams, MD M’90 discusses the ethical problems that can arise when young American students go overseas to participate in community service projects in poor countries. Dr. Adams is associate dean for global health and director of the Center for Health Equity at the Geisel School of Medicine.
