Distinguished Surgeon and Educator, Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery, Geisel School of
Medicine at Dartmouth

 

Nick Peter Perencevich, MD, is a celebrated figure in the medical community, renowned for his dedication to medical education, public health, and healthcare equity. Throughout his career, Perencevich has held various positions in New Hampshire, primarily in Concord and at the VA in Manchester. At Concord Hospital, he served as president of the medical staff (2000-2002) and later as chief of surgery.
 
He also served the New Hampshire Board of Medicine for 17 years (2002-2019), spending the last five years as its physician investigator. This experience often leads him to testify before New Hampshire legislative committees on public health issues.
 
Perencevich has been a member of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Surgery Department since 1988. In 1990, he spearheaded the formation of a surgical resident rotation in Concord, which he continues to support 34 years later. In 2010, he helped bring third-year Geisel students to Concord for their core surgery rotation, and he continues teaching them in Concord and Lebanon. In 2015, he received the Surgery Clerkship Award for Outstanding Contribution to Geisel Student Learning.

In 2012, Perencevich was Dartmouth’s surgical representative to the Human Resources of Health Program in Rwanda, marking the beginning of the country’s residency programs. He worked at the Central Hospital University of Kigali for six months. Upon returning, he became a founding member of the Center for Global Health Equity Board at Geisel (2013-2022), and he continues to mentor Geisel students about global health.
 
Perencevich’s legacy is marked by his profound impact on medical teaching, both locally and globally. As a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a member of the New England Surgical Society, he continues to inspire others through his dedication to education, public health, and healthcare equity.
