Reunion 2011 Summary

The weekend began with our traditional Dartmouth Reunion Symposium, this year titled  “Docs clamantis in deserto: Dartmouth Voices in the Quest to Improve Clinical Research, Health Care Delivery and Outcomes.”  Presenters included Erol Kohli (TDI '07), David Goodman (TDI '95), David Levine (DMS '86), and David Wennberg.

Friday evening's welcome reception at the Dartmouth Outing Club brought together classmates eager to catch up since their last reunion--or longer.

On Saturday, alumni participated in local activities from golfing and canoeing on the Connecticut to visiting favorite spots in the area.  Over coffee, Dean Souba gave an update on the school, followed by a panel of current students and a discussion about the DMS curriculum.  Highlights of the afternoon barbecue on the lawn near Rope Ferry Road included activities for children, including lawn games, a bounce house, arts and crafts, and a special visit from three majestic birds living at the Vermont Institute of Natural Science.  Specific afternoon class activities were the Class of '91 BBQ at classmate Donald Miller's home, a mini golf tournament at the Hanover Country Club organized by Greg Ruhland '81 and son Ed Ruhland '13, and a special talk by Conner Moore '61 on his book, From Black Bag to Blackberry.  Everyone enjoyed the exceptional weather and the beginnings of colorful foliage.

The day ended with a special all-classes reception and dinner at the Lake Morey Resort, while children got together for a movie night and ice cream social organized by Alpha Xi Delta, a Dartmouth College sorority.  The reunion giving committees announced their class totals, thanked their classmates for their generosity, and received acknowledgments from Dean Souba.  Linda Coffin '76 served as emcee.

On Sunday, DMS alumni said farewell over breakfast at Dartmouth's Collis Student Union. Friendships rekindled and promises were made to come back in five years to get together again.  We are happy to announce that Reunion questionnaires reported very high ratings for the entire reunion weekend, with the weather and foliage receiving high markings as well!

The dates for Fall Reunion next year are September 21-23, 2012.   All alumni are encouraged to visit Dartmouth whenever they can. For any assistance with travel or lodging, please visit our resource page or contact the Alumni Office.
