Katerina Byanova
Geisel Class of 2016

MATCHING IN Internal Medicine: “Internal Medicine is exciting, challenging, and all-encompassing. It gives me an opportunity to think about the whole patient, practice evidence-based medicine and be the most comprehensive physician I can be. It doesn't get much better than that!”

THE GEISEL EXPERIENCE: “I have been continuously impressed, challenged and inspired by the people I have interacted with on my rotations, and I truly believe that my medical school successes are a direct product of the interactions I had with faculty and peers. It has been a privilege to be a part of, and hopefully contribute, to the culture of intellectual curiosity and team work at Geisel.

One of the factors that makes Geisel unique is that the community is small and tight-knit, which means that you are never invisible; you are part of a community that cares and being able to reach out to faculty for research opportunities, as well as for guidance, has been invaluable in helping me make the most out of my experience here.”

IMPORTANT MENTOR: “I have had the privilege of working with Dr. Timothy Gardner since second year when he agreed to be my clinic preceptor in our longitudinal On Doctoring course. Seeing how he approaches his patients with kindness and compassion has helped shape my own interactions with patients and has shown me the importance of having a strong physician-patient relationship in providing the best care possible. Dr Gardner also introduced me to the exciting field of gastroenterology and has been my mentor in the residency application process and in thinking about fellowship in GI.”
