Jeff DeFlavio ’15 Launches Network of Drug Addiction Treatment Centers
In response to  a critical need for treatment services in rural northern New England, Jeff DeFlavio and his former professor have launched a network of clinics, called Recover Together, that offers accessible and affordable treatment – including medication-assisted therapy with Suboxone – for drug and heroin users.


Shreya Shrestha ’15 Heads Home to Nepal to Assist in Earthquake’s Aftermath
As part of Dartmouth’s coordinated efforts, Shreya Shrestha flew to Kathmandu on May 11 to deliver emergency medical supplies and cash for direct relief, and to promote rebuilding. Just hours after she landed, a second powerful earthquake struck the region east of the capital.

Should patients be able to record their visits with physicians? In a Washington Post piece, Glyn Elwyn, a physician and scientist at the Dartmouth Center for Health Care Delivery Science, cites his findings that doctors who agree to go on the record can boost their patients’ trust and strengthen the relationship.


U.S. Spends More on Cancer Care, Saves Fewer Lives than Western Europe 
Despite sharp spending increases on cancer treatment, mortality rates for cancer patients in the U.S. have decreased modestly since 1970. Cancer care in the U.S. does not save lives as often as care in Western Europe, and when it does, the costs are high, according to a new study from Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s Norris Cotton Cancer Center and The Dartmouth Institute.
