Glenn Rennels ’80: In Pursuit of Dual Passions
Glenn Rennels's colleagues thought it was "a lunatic move" when, in 1990, he gave up an endowed chair at MIT to work in computer technology at The Permanente Medical Group. There, Dr. Rennels helped transform the organization into one of the nation's most technologically sophisticated medical groups.   

Caring for Infants with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome: Geisel Study Confirms Benefits of New Approach
A new way of caring for babies born dependent on opioids reduces the use of medications, length of hospital stays, and costs, according to a study led by Dr. Alison Holmes, a Geisel professor of pediatrics, and her colleagues. “The parents are really the main treatment for the babies instead of medication being the main treatment,” Holmes told the Union Leader

Geisel Students Earn Public Health Award
Three Geisel MD students have been honored with the 2016 Excellence in Public Health Award by the U.S. Public Health Service for their work with Spanish-speaking dairy farm workers in the Upper Valley.

Remembering Professor Ron Taylor and Emeritus Professor Allan Munck
This spring, the Geisel community lost two beloved colleagues and mentors. Ron Taylor, professor of microbiology and immunology, died on March 26 at age 62. Taylor is remembered for his optimism, sense of humor, and love of science and discovery. Read more about his life and career here. Allan Munck, an active emeritus professor of physiology and neurobiology known for his discovery of glucocorticoid receptors, died on April 29. Read memories of Dr. Munck from his colleagues here.

Infectious Outbreaks Must be Combatted Strategically
New funding is not enough to guarantee success against emerging infectious diseases around the world, writes Geisel assistant professor and biosecurity expert Kendall Hoyt, PhD, in the journal Nature Biotechnology. Rather, good governance, a long-term technology investment strategy, and strong product management skills are essential.
