Professor emeritus of Pediatrics, Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth




Dr. Alan Rozycki joined the Dartmouth Medical School faculty in 1972 as an assistant professor of clinical maternal and pediatric health in the Department of Pediatrics. Over the subsequent decades he ascended through the ranks, spending 18 years as a full professor before being awarded emeritus status in 2012.


Alan is a general pediatrician with interests in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, spina bifida, and HIV. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and active member of the New Hampshire chapter, for which he serves as chair of the Committee on AIDS and as a member on the executive committee. He has been active with Physicians for Social Responsibility since 1978. Since 1990, he has served on the executive committee of New England Physicians for Social Responsibility.


Throughout his career, Alan has held numerous leadership positions at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, at the medical school, and in the community. He served as chief of pediatrics from 1992–1997 and director of the Normal Newborn Nursery from 1999–2001. In 1994, Alan co-founded the Dartmouth International Health Group and has served as a member of its steering committee ever since, and he’s sat on the Pediatric Ethics Interest Group steering committee since 1992. He was medical director for the Upper Valley Regional Special Olympics Winter games in 2003 and 2004 and spent more than a decade as medical consultant to Clean Water Action in Portsmouth, NH.


As a longstanding alumni volunteer at Dartmouth, Alan has served as the Geisel representative to the Dartmouth College Alumni Council, the class secretary for 1961 since 2010, an Alumni Council member since 2009, a Syvertsen Memorial Committee member, and a note writer both for the White Coat and Match Day events. In 2008, Alan served as chairman for the 45th reunion of his medical school class. The same year marked the first annual “Alan A. Rozycki Commitment to Excellence Award,” which honors individuals whose extraordinary work has affected the quality of the patient experience in general pediatrics at the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD).


A native of Chicago, IL, Alan earned his undergraduate degree in zoology at Dartmouth College in 1961. Alan pursued his medical degree at Dartmouth Medical School and Harvard Medical School. He completed his pediatric internship and residency at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston and additional post-doctoral training in hospital administration in the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan. From 1961–63 and 1968–71 he served in the U.S. Army.
