Health inequity has been one of the most pressing issues of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Concurrently, we are are also examining the deep roots of racism and historical trauma that have led to the systemic exclusion of many generations of Black, indigenous, and people of color communities from economic and social opportunities. Prof. Bassett will share some of her thoughts on how we reconcile our past to achieve health equity for future generations and the most impactful, if politically challenging, approaches to do so.

Bio: Dr. Mary T. Bassett has dedicated her career to advancing health equity. She is currently the Director of the François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University and the FXB Professor of the Practice of Health and Human Rights at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Prior to joining the FXB Center, she served as New York City’s Commissioner of Health from 2014 to 2018.
