Research indicates that in New Hampshire, many survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) with acute brain injuries have negative experiences when seeking help from law enforcement, healthcare systems and advocacy groups and are hesitant to access these services. The awareness and education amongst providers regarding IPV and related brain injuries is not standardized throughoutthe state, making it difficult to effectively and consistently care for these patients.
This presentation will provide an overview of the presenter’s research on understanding the complexities of help-seeking behaviors of survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) and related acute brain injuries in rural settings in New Hampshire and explores how survivors normalize and minimize their own experiences. Providers need to be aware of legal and health care options and available resources for IPV survivors statewide.
