Virtual Program: Leadership during Crisis

Thursday, April 30, 2020 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

This program is brought to you in partnership with Tuck Alumni Lifelong Learning from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.

During times of crisis, it’s easy to feel defeated and powerless. But times of crisis are exactly when your efforts to make the world a better place are needed most.

This inspiring virtual program will feature Brian Gallagher, president and CEO of United Way Worldwide, in conversation with John Lynch, Tuck professor and four-time governor of New Hampshire. Join in to learn how crisis can highlight or exacerbate longstanding societal challenges and invite people from all walks of life to work together to develop solutions.

As a member of the business community, what unique opportunities do you have to effect change? And what responsibility do you have to use them—in both times of crisis and normality? Come together with these two thought leaders and Tuck alumni and students to share your questions and ideas about this timely issue.

Brian A. Gallagher began his career at United Way Worldwide in 1981. As president and CEO of the world’s largest privately-funded nonprofit, he leads a global network that supports the health, education, and financial stability of individuals and families in more than 1,800 communities thanks to the support of nearly 3 million volunteers, more than 8 million donors, and $4.8 billion raised every year. Gallagher joined United Way because of his belief that lasting community change at scale takes place when the public, private, and non-profit sectors work together. Under Gallagher’s leadership, United Way has shifted to a community impact model that creates sustained change by bringing a wide range of stakeholders to the table. His success with such a model in cities like Columbus, Ohio, taught him the value of examining root causes of problems, embracing innovative solutions and finding people’s inner passions to make a difference.

John Lynch is clinical professor at Tuck School of Business. A four-term Democratic governor of New Hampshire, Lynch was CEO of Knoll, Inc., a company that manufactures and sells high-quality office furniture.
