About the Fund for the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth
What is the Fund for the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth?
The Fund for the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth provides unrestricted support for all aspects of the medical school. Gifts to the Fund support scholarship, curriculum development, the recruitment and retention of the highest caliber faculty, the creation of innovative programs and state-of-the-art facilities, and the overall operation of the Medical School. It offers the fiscal flexibility the Geisel School of Medicine needs to seize opportunities and respond to the demands of providing the next generation of doctors and scientists with the best education and training possible. It allows Geisel to be responsive to adapt to today’s rapidly changing health care environment.
Why give?
There is no better way to ensure the School’s continued leadership in medical education than to provide it with financial resources. Alumni gifts ensure the status of the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth as a premier medical school. Unrestricted support helps increase the size and scope of institutional financial aid programs. The Fund for the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth helps bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of a medical education. Such gifts will help relieve pressure on the endowment and tuition as funding sources. Giving to the Fund is a tangible means for alumni to testify to the value of their Dartmouth experience and the impact it had on their personal and professional lives.
How is my gift counted into your fiscal year? Do pledges count?
Our fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30. All gifts received within that time period are counted into the Fund for the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth totals for the year. Pledges made during this time are not included in the total for the year. If you make a payment on your pledge during the fiscal year, then the amount of the payment counts.
How are the crediting rules different if I am in a reunion year? If I make a five-year pledge, how much of that pledge counts toward the reunion gift total?
We extend our crediting period beyond the June 30th deadline to include all gifts made through reunion weekend in the fall. Additionally, pledges payable over five years but committed to before the reunion are included in the reunion gift total announced for each class.
Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes. All gifts are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law.
